Glendora Resident Claire Dresselhaus Receives Fulbright Award

Azusa Pacific University graduate Claire Dresselhaus, a Glendora, California, resident received a prestigious Fulbright Award for the 2016-17 school year.

Dresselhaus, a psychology major, graduated with a bachelor's degree from APU on December 12, 2015. She will teach English at the Corporacion Universitaria del Huila, in Neiva, Colombia.

"Going to Colombia will be an adventure. I am looking forward to the opportunity to grow as a teacher, engage in the community, and learn more about this country and culture," said Dresselhaus.

Dresselhaus is one of three APU graduates to receive a Fulbright Award this year, joining Kendall Iaquinta '16, and Emma Palm '16. Thousands of students from across the U.S. apply annually for the elite scholarship, yet only about 1,500 are selected. APU boasts 35 student Fulbright scholars since 2003.

The Fulbright Program is an international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government designed to "increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries." The Fulbright Program has provided more than 300,000 participants-chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential -with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
